About The Position

The IT Specialist will be a key member of the Data & Technology team and work collaboratively across all departments.

The IT Specialist will work under the direction of the Director of Data & Technology in functions related to full-service hardware and application support. The successful candidate will: provide technical end-user support, training, and documentation for applications and systems; handle installation, maintenance, support, and troubleshooting for computers and peripherals as well as networking infrastructure; support the maintenance and modification of existing systems and hardware, as well as implementation of new systems and hardware; and, perform other related duties as required and assigned.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, connectivity, and other issues for Staff
  • Install, maintain, and upgrade computer software and hardware
  • Perform testing, routine quality analysis, check-up, and updates of computer systems and infrastructure
  • Coordinate on the account management for all user accounts under the IT umbrella –
  • Coordinate on the IT portion of employee onboarding and offboarding transitions
  • Coordinate with managing IT-related equipment and peripherals at the office in conjunction with the Office Manager which includes but not limited to networking devices, printers, AV system
  • Conduct IT-related training as needed
  • Maintain IT documentation, procedures, and protocols
  • Participate in IT audits and security assessments
  • Liaison with IT-related vendors and service providers

In-person Office Requirements

  • Monthly evening Board Meetings and other similar meetings to facilitate hybrid meeting applications and ensure the AV equipment and other connected hardware function properly during the meetings –
  • As needed and in a timely manner (within -2 hours) to troubleshoot any IT-related equipment and issues
  • As needed for scheduled appointments with vendors, service providers, and staff –
  • As needed for staff meetings and any other IT-related staff support –

Knowledge and Skills

  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve any technical issues with software applications and systems
  • Ability to understand operations, purposes, and functions of the applications supported
  • Significant working knowledge of Windows and MacOS platforms (Linux platform knowledge is a plus)
  • Significant working knowledge of the management and administration of JumpCloud, Google Workspace and Apps, Box, Microsoft Office 365, Slack, Zoom, and Adobe –
  • Significant working knowledge of network environments and concepts such as Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol—(DHCP), Domain Name System (DNS), Virtual Private Network (VPN), wireless and mobile computing –
  • Significant working knowledge of Cisco Meraki network switches and firewalls –
  • Significant working knowledge of AV systems for hybrid conference meeting environments for both in-person and virtual attendees –
  • Understanding of IT security, compliance, data storage, data governance, data protection, and data retention policies and implementations –
  • Experience with Helpdesk and IT operations best practices –
  • Experience with scripting and automation tools –
  • Ability to work independently and apply analytical skills –
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills –
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills –
  • IT certifications in Linux, Microsoft, or other network related fields strongly desired –

Education and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, System Administration, or a closely related field, or equivalent experience required
  • Proven work experience in Information Technology with 2+ years in an IT department involving desktop support, server and application administration, and network infrastructure administration –

Physical and Working ConditionsThe IT Specialist will be required to come to the Redwood City office for Board Meetings and as-needed for IT functions.

Employees are occasionally required to walk, and stand for prolonged periods; stoop, bend, kneel and twist; and may lift up to 20 pounds. must be able to communicate in person, in writing, and by telephone with Board members, management, co-workers, vendors, and consultants in face-to-face, one-on-one, and group settings.

In December 2020, the City of Los Banos joined Peninsula Clean Energy and started receiving service from Peninsula Clean Energy in April 2022.
